200811. ADHD, impatience, or just the norm?
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but nowadays, when I surf the web, I’m quite certain I have the attention span a 6 year old child.
Page doesn’t load in under 10 seconds? Definitely clicking the “X”.
Download stalling and progress is slowing? I cancel it and reload it.
Watching streamed TV online or taking notes in class? I likely have several windows up and am...

190811. moola moola.
I was at Aritzia yesterday, musing at this beautiful, sheer short-sleeved blouse, a perfect addition to my work wanna-be-professional clothing collection. But much to my dismay, reality slapped me in the face as I turned over the price tag, $85+tax. Pretty much $100. But it was just a blouse. Seriously, did I miss something? Apparently, money grows on trees nowadays.
As I came back down to earth,...

190811. mi casa.
Man, what a nice change of scenery from my place in Windsor. It has been so nice moving into the heart of downtown Toronto. Yesterday, I literally left my condo, walked to the Eaton Centre, returned an item at Aritzia and Banana Republic, shopped around a little, and managed to get home, all in under half an hour. Every dinner date or drink night this week? Less than a 10 minute walk. Haha.
But...

One more random fact of the day. Pineapples grow like this. Haha. Who knew?

This is where cashews come from? No wonder these suckers are so expensive. But FYI, if you ever travel to India and find these, don’t eat them at this stage. Apparently they’re poisonous.

150811. the end of an era.
Dear Windsor,
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explore. To grow. To fully understand what it means to be carefree. To drink.
Can’t say I’m not ecstatic to leave. Because I am. I’m glad that I have officially completed my MBA. I’m beyond excited to begin medical school next week.
But you have taught me so much about what it means to be independent. To be faced...

140811. ten random tips for life.
1) For tough-to-open jars, run it under hot water for 10 seconds. Or wrap the top of the lid with a thick elastic band, it somehow gives it leverage.
2) When streaming TV shows online with limited viewing time (e.g. videobb or Megavideo via www.sidereel.com or www.fastpasstv.ms), open the video, let the entire thing load, then turn off your Internet connection. This will avoid them from tracking...

130811. a real love/hate relationship.
Hate is a strong word. I know that. And as much as I love her, some days I hate her. I hate the fact that she looks down on people who aren’t as fortunate as her. I hate the fact that she feels entitled to everything my dad has ever worked for. I hate the fact that no matter what I do, she always thinks she knows better.
No, it isn’t unreasonable that there is beginning to be more...

040811. overrated.
After hearing rave reviews from friends, I had been dying to go to Brassaii for a while. “It was the new ‘it-spot’ in Toronto”, said J. Since Mister and I were going to watch Blue Man Group for our delayed 3-year celebration anyhow, fine dining felt fitting.
Sadly like many other high-end restaurants, Brassaii fell short. I mean, the place was beautiful. Really chic...

120711. festival epicure.
Just to clarify, as fun as the photos in the last post may be, my classmates and I were actually at Festival Epicure volunteering for a charity organization named Pathway to Potential! Basically they are a local initiative that assists in poverty awareness and reduction in the Windsor-Essex region. Notably, the proceeds from our efforts at the festival went towards supporting local community...

120711. forever young.
I’m pretty sure I’m bound to get carded until I’m about 35.
The other day, we were at Festival Epicure when the cashier lady at the beer tent gave me the dirty up and down.

Lady: “Can I see some ID miss?”
Me: “You sure can!”
Lady: “Oh wow, you’re way past the age.”

120711. overrated.
Google recently released their beta version of Google+, a social networking site that would directly compete with industry giant Facebook. Since its inception, everyone’s been raving about how great it is. How revolutionary it is to filter your updates/news and provide limited access to identified “circles” of family vs. co-workers vs. friends.
YIPPEEE! Now we can keep our...

010711. the dreaded mornings.
With a prescription of about -6.00, I am practically blind as a bat without some type of vision aid. I mean, if you stand about 8 feet away from me and raise your hand up, I’m not so sure I’d be able to tell you how many fingers you have up. Now with the advent of glasses and contacts, it’s not really such a big deal. Unless you have days like today, where somehow after showering, you can’t seem...

010711. subtle racism.
I was at Wal-Mart today, tasked with the challenge of finding a new foundation for my newly tanned skin. To my dismay, I soon learned that all the bastards at Revlon, Maybelline, Covergirl, etc. are all racist! My god! Almost every single one left me looking as pasty as a ghost! I mean, is it really necessary to make 8 shades of light beige? With only about 2 darker shades for each brand, it...

240611. flawed logic.
I hate it when people criticize Asians for shunning their heritage and “wanting to be white” if they choose to wear colored contacts or dye their hair brown or blonde. I’m sorry, if a white person dyes their hair black, does that mean that person “wants to be Asian”?
Newsflash. Unlike Caucasians, nobody was shocked when I popped out of the womb and out came out...

220611. Thank goodness for Google.
I sat there baffled as my arrow keys on Excel made the screen move up and down instead of the cell. Going through all the different settings trying to figure out what the problem was, I grew increasingly frustrated. Then the light bulb went off, if I’m currently having issue, I’m sure someone else has found the solution and published it on the Internet.
And just as I expected, a...

220611. it's all finally becoming real.
So we just got sent our Orientation Week schedule for med school, and boy I am PUMPED! But one of the decisions to be made is, which stethoscope to buy?
To my surprise, apparently these little snake-looking metal piece range from $200-400. Apparently, to make you feel like you’re getting value for your money, 3M Littmann has employed the ”customizability” marketing strategy....

220611. Bear Genius.
Given that my birthday was the first of this month, this post is a tad belated. Nonetheless, big shout-out to my man, Christopher Cheong. This man’s genius, and I’m not just talking about the overrated Barack Obama type. I’m referring to the Leonardo di Vinci, Nikola Tesla, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart type of genius.
Last year, the guy designed the Christmas Gift Box for Roots...

You know when you’re fighting that feeling as your eyelids begin to close, your face starts to go numb and your vision begins to cross and blur? That’s been me all week. A few of us in the MBA who are fast-tracking have been partaking in the Windsor Summer Institute of Clinical Health Research to fulfill our last course credit. It’s basically a one-week lecture series...

020611. questionable sleep cycle.
With only 2 hours of sleep, I went to bed at 6PM thinking I would take a short nap and continue studying for my next exam. Boy was I surprised when Mister called and I realized it was 11:30PM. That’s basically a full night’s worth of sleep. And now, at 1:30AM, I’m about to go back to bed. Haha. Screw you accounting.
Update: I woke up at 11:30AM. WHAT? …that’s about...

300511. academy selection.
It’s finally becoming real.
Today we got our emails regarding academy rankings at U of T. We have a choice of 4 major geographic areas and their associated hospitals, in which for the next four years, will become home to me. Hospital observerships, clerkships, clinical science labs, research, network connections; they’re all a part of my 50 hour weeks.
I always thought that if it...

300611. distracted.
You know you lack keen observation skills when you realize a train is approaching, as you are crossing the tracks.
Man I’m frigging idiot. I guess living next to the train tracks and hearing the horn several times a day has desensitized me to the noise. But really, just imagine this, as you are about to cross the same tracks that you cross everyday, you swing your head to the left as a...

220511. empty hearts.
Every so often, I get this pang of nostalgia. The yearning to lie in bed, next to T, just talking about a whole lot of nothing. Without a worry in the world, just watching the sun reach through the blinds.
I miss home. I miss my friends. I miss the people who fully understand everything that lies beneath the superficial version of me.
It’s funny. I always thought I was one to love change....
