IKEA really hit the mark by fulfilling the niche of trendy affordable furniture. However, if you’re Asian, most likely these prices still seem astronomical to your parents. As a result, you are forced to match the most unlikely combination of Uncle Mike’s leftover patent blue couch and Grandma’s antique Chinese red rug.

Fortunately, they allowed my sister to purchase the bulk of her furniture brand new when she moved into her condo in downtown Toronto. Unfortunately, my sister has about zero sense of style. As a result, her condo is full of furniture pieces, as opposed to a coherent blend of home furnishing.

Given that she lives within a 5 minute vicinity of all the major hospitals and U of T med, I will be moving in with her this August, forcing my brother to jump ship and go look to buy a house.

My list of wants to spiff up the place? About $600 total.

What do you guys think? Is this a reasonable amount to invest?
