Google recently released their beta version of Google+, a social networking site that would directly compete with industry giant Facebook.  Since its inception, everyone’s been raving about how great it is. How revolutionary it is to filter your updates/news and provide limited access to identified “circles” of family vs. co-workers vs. friends.

YIPPEEE! Now we can keep our circles small and stalk the people who matter most to us! **insert sarcasm here**

Err.. I don’t know about you, but I don’t go on Facebook to stalk my closest friends. That’s what Friday nights and my real personal life is for. Even the extended friends, if I really gave a shit, I’d even go as far as picking up my phone for you. The people I stalk on Facebook are the people I haven’t seen in a while.  I secretly enjoy the false illusion of still feeling somewhat connected with you.  I enjoy when an distant elementary school friend hits the occasional “like” button on my photos.  I actually really like looking through your wedding or children’s photos and knowing you’re doing well nowadays.

But my bigger question is, do people not recognize Facebook has all those same privacy functions already? I mean, I’m pretty sure my familia would beat me to a pulp if they actually saw many drunken pictures of belligerent Michelle are available on the world wide web. haha.

Personally, I think Google+ is the dinosaur version of Facebook. With no real value added (with the exception of its apparent exclusivity), I don’t really see myself using Google+. I have already established a major friends base on Facebook and really don’t need to waste time checking a second website.

Nonetheless, if you don’t have an invite and want to take a look at Google+ for yourself, just shoot me your email. :)
